Debut Release: Forest and Fjord

Forest and Fjord—a musical portrayal of the other-worldly natural landscapes in both Norway and the Pacific Northwest—features 11 original compositions by Andrew Torgelson with the help of Mattias Thedens (tr. 10) and Sebastian Sack (tr. 11). The style can best be characterized by the term “art-jazz:” a blend of jazz’s improvisatory spirit with evocative tonal colors, layered with synthesizers, hardanger fiddle, and field recordings from the mountains—resulting in vignettes that echo Beethoven’s tone poems for the modern era. Forest and Fjord features Ethan Chilton (trumpet), Sam Reid (piano), Ethan Moffitt (upright bass) and Niko Embry (drums).
